With a bit of planning, the shopping experience can be so much more enjoyable.

So here are 5 tips for de-stressing accessory and jewellery shopping:

  1. Make it fun
  2. Know your jewellery style
  3. Quality over quantity
  4. Be careful with trends
  5. Make it personal

1. Make the shopping experience fun

Block out some time to spend researching and looking. Why not invite a close friend, or member of your family to help you.  You can make it an experience to share with someone who will fully appreciate what it means to you.

If they are your cheerleader in the experience it will be so much more fun; so make it an event that feels important. Create an occasion, and carve out some time to do it properly. It will help to ensure your time is well spent, and successful.

2. know your jewellery style

To avoid impulse buying, and feeling you have made a mistake, it is a good idea to take some time to consider what your personal style is, and the aesthetic you are going for on your wedding day.  Do you usually wear gold? Are you more of a minimalist jewellery wearer, or are you a maximalist?  Do you have a particular birthstone you’d like to wear?

Answering questions like this before doing your research means you won’t waste precious wedding planning time, and will be more likely to wear your jewellery after your wedding day.

3. Quality over quantity

Invest in quality pieces that will last.  Buy the best you can with the budget that you have. Your future self will thank you because you will wear the jewellery over and over again. Especially if you stick to classic styles. And your accessories will stand the test of time.

4. Be careful with trends

We all love a trend – however, trends come and go.  And their fleeting nature means you can very quickly end up with accessories and jewellery that just don’t suit you any more.

Instead, use trends as a means to spark inspiration and to give you ideas.  Stick to pieces that resonate with your style and will last. Especially if you buy pieces very early on, before your wedding day. You don’t want to buy early, and then find that your purchase is out of fashion by the wedding day. Or even after.

5. make it personal

As history has shown us, jewellery and accessories can be powerful forms of self expression – think Cleopatra, Coco Chanel,  Elizabeth Taylor , to name but a few.

Seek out jewellery that reflects, or holds personal meaning. Whether it is a birthstone, or piece of family jewellery or a vintage piece of jewellery that you’d like to be turned into something more modern  . This gives your jewellery or wedding accessory a depth of meaning to it. And will have more of a significant effect when you are wearing it.
